Livyatan melvillei

A group of prehistoric sperm whales swim in the ancient waters of the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Peru.
Livyatan melvillei is a genus and extinct species of odontoceto, belonging to the Physeteroidea superfamily, known for a single specimen that lived in what is now Peru. It was found in the Pisco desert, Ica region, in rocks 12-13 million years ago (Miocene).
